Inspired by momentary threads of light and color, I often paint on location early in the morning or late into the evening. Glowing light, the richest and yet most temporary, transforms the landscape with opulent luxury. Layering pastels on colored paper creates the clear luminous color and the vibrant interplay of tones necessary to capture these moments. Bold juxtaposition of color evokes the liveliness and strength of the natural world, while in more detailed portraits, the rough edged strokes of pastel lend a soft impressionism.
